MIT Sloan Programs and Admissions When most people think of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), they think about science and technology, but this prestigious university offers education beyond those two fields. MIT has five different schools, including the MIT Sloan School of Management. MIT Sloan School of Management, also known as MIT Sloan, is one of the best-ranked business schools in the world. It is also one of the M7 business schools, an informal network of the most elite business schools in the United States. Students who enroll in MIT Sloan have the opportunity to graduate with a respected degree from a reputable school with brand name awareness. MIT Sloan School of Management is based in Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The presence of the school and the number of entrepreneurial start-ups in the area has led to Kendall Square being known as the most innovative square mile on the planet. MIT Sloan Enrollment and Faculty Approximately 1,300 students are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs at MIT Sloan School of Management. It is designed to give students a broad, foundational education in business and management while allowing them to choose minors and electives that will directly relate to their chosen careers.15:2 Business Analytics: In this undergraduate MIT Sloan program, students learn how to collect, analyze, and optimize data to make informed business decisions.15:3 Finance: In this MIT Sloan program, students study all aspects of finance, including accounting, microeconomics, and statistics. They also have a chance to choose finance-related electives that will help them learn how to apply financial tools to make managerial and strategic investment decisions. Undergraduate Admissions at MIT Sloan Freshman students who want to study at MIT Sloan must submit an application to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. If accepted, they will choose a major at the end of their freshman year. The school is very selective, admitting less than 10 percent of the people who apply each year. As part of the undergraduate admissions process at MIT, you will be asked to submit biographical information, essays, recommendation letters, high school transcripts, and standardized test scores. Your application will be evaluated by a large group of people based on a number of factors. At least 12 people will look at and consider your application before you receive an acceptance letter.   MIT Sloan Programs for Graduate Students MIT Sloan School of Management offers an MBA program, several masters degree programs, and a PhD program in addition to executive education programs. The MBA program has a first-semester core that requires students to take a select number of classes, but after the first semester, students are given the opportunity to self-manage their education and personalize their curriculum. Personalized track options include entrepreneurship and innovation, enterprise management, and finance. MBA students at MIT Sloan can also choose to earn a joint degree in the Leaders for Global Operations program, which results in an MBA from MIT Sloan and a Master of Science in Engineering from MIT, or a dual degree, which results in an MBA from MIT Sloan and a Masters in Public Affairs or Masters in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Mid-career executives who want to earn an MBA in 20 months of part-time study may be well suited to the executive MBA program at MIT Sloan School of Management. Students in this program attend classes every three weeks on Fridays and Saturdays. The program also has a one-week module every six months in addition to a one-week international project trip. Masters degree options include a Master of Finance, Master of Business Analytics, and a Master of Science in Management Studies. Students can also choose to enroll in the System Design and Management program, which results in a Master of Management and Engineering. The Ph.D. program at MIT Sloan School of Management is the most advanced education program. MBA Admissions at MIT Sloan You do not need work experience to apply to the MBA program at MIT Sloan School of Management, but you should have a bachelors degree in any area of study, a record of personal achievement, and high academic potential to be considered for the program. Your qualifications can be demonstrated through a range of application components, including standardized test scores, recommendation letters, and academic records. There is no single application component that is the most important- all components are weighed equally. About 25 percent of the students who apply will be invited to interview. Interviews are conducted by members of the admissions committee and are behavioral based. Interviewers assess how well applicants can communicate, influence others, and handle specific situations. MIT Sloan School of Management has round applications, but you can only apply once per year, so it is important to develop a solid application the first time you apply. Admissions for Other Graduate Programs at MIT Sloan The admissions for graduate programs (other than the MBA program) at MIT Sloan vary by program. However, you should plan on submitting undergraduate transcripts, an application, and supporting materials, such as resumes and essays, if you are applying to a degree program. Each degree program has a limited number of seats, which makes the process very selective and competitive. 'A Better Chance' Helps Students of Color Attend Top Schools The scholarship organization A Better Chance (ABC), founded in 1963, has provided many students of color with the chance to attend college-prep private schools and public schools across the country. Their mission clearly illustrates the goal of the organization: Our mission is to  increase substantially  the number of well-educated young people of color who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in American society.  Since its founding, ABC has grown greatly, first starting out with 55 students enrolled at nine schools to now more than 2,000 students enrolled at nearly 350 of the best private schools and public schools, as of the 2015-2016 school year (ABCs website has not been updated since we initially reported this statistic in July 2016).   United States President Lyndon Johnson meets with African American and white political figures from New Jersey, discussing aspects of his War on Poverty legislation. Afro Newspaper/Gado  /  Getty Images A Brief History   Originally, the program involved identifying and selecting talented students of color and providing  scholarships  for them to attend  private day  and  boarding schools. In the first year, even before  President Lyndon B. Johnson  announced his War on Poverty, 55 boys, all poor and mostly African-American, took part in an academically rigorous summer program. If they completed the program, the  headmasters of  16  private  schools agreed to accept them. In the 1970s, the program began to send students to competitive public high schools in areas such as New Canaan and  Westport, Connecticut; and  Amherst, Massachusetts. Students lived in a house staffed  by program tutors  and administrators, and the local community provided support for their house. In addition, many  colleges across the country, from Stanford in California to Colgate in New York state, have partnered with ABC to express their interest in promoting diversity. Racial Diversity   The current program is focused on increasing diversity at educational institutions.  While the majority of students enrolled are African-American, today the program also includes a wide range of diverse students. In addition to racial diversity, ABC also has increased its assistance for students of varying economic backgrounds, helping not only students who have significant financial constraints, but also middle-class students. The program offers to subsidize tuition for these students based on demonstrated financial need.   ABC notes that its scholars are a racially diverse group (figures approximate):   67% are African-American16% Latino7% Asian American1% Native American9% multi-racial or other Tracy Chapman. Chris Carroll/Getty Images   A Strong Alumni Base As a result of their dedication to making a quality education possible for students of color,  ABC can boast an alumni base of tens of thousands of individuals who are active in many fields.  According to President Sandra E. Timmons, there are over 13,000 alumni and alumnae of this program, and many are influential in the fields of business, government, education, the arts, and other areas. The organization includes among its famous alumni  Governor of Massachusetts  Deval Patrick, who was raised on the South Side of Chicago by a single mother. One of his middle school teachers recognized his talent, and Mr. Patrick was able to attend Milton Academy, a boarding school in Massachusetts, on a scholarship. He later went on to attend Harvard College and Harvard Law School before becoming governor of Massachusetts. Another notable ABC alumna is  singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman,  who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended the Wooster School in Connecticut on a scholarship. The Wooster School is a private co-ed pre-K through 12  school. After she graduated from the Wooster School in 1982, Ms. Chapman went on to  Tufts University  near Boston, where she majored in African Studies and Anthropology. She also started to perform at local venues, and she was discovered by a classmate whose father helped her get her first recording contract, though she insisted on graduating from college first. She is famous for singles such as  Fast Car  and  Give  Me One Reason. Program Requirements and Fees The College Preparatory Schools Program (CPSP) of ABC works to identify, recruit, place and support deserving students of color in college prep middle and high schools. Students applying to ABC must currently be in grades 4-9 and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Students must also be academically strong, maintaining an overall average of a B or better and rank within the top 10% of their class. They should also participate in after-school activities, demonstrate leadership potential, and have good character. They must also receive strong teacher recommendations. Interested applicants must submit an inquiry online and later create an application, as well as write an essay,  ask for letters of recommendation, and be interviewed. Member schools may require additional steps as part of the overall application process, such as standardized testing or additional interviews. Acceptance at ABC does not guarantee admission at a member school. Participation in ABC is without cost, and the organization offers fee waivers for its scholars to take the SSAT and to apply for financial aid. Member schools do charge tuition, but all offer financial aid which is usually based on a familys personal financial situation. This is very evident in the growing number of students pursuing the field in our school, College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC). In our (the CIC community)commitment for excellence as stipulated in our vision and mission, the school administrators, faculty and staff are continuously seeking ways on how we can improve our programs, the content and delivery of instruction and most especially our students. We do such by attending fora, conducting various seminar/workshops/trainings, benchmarking with other schools, peer mentoring, pursuing graduate studies and eventually aspiring and working for a university status through an ongoing accreditation with PAASCU (Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities). In the 4-year stint of offering the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, often, we are able to have not less than three blocks every semester. As a private school competing with so many others within the province, we represent quite a volume in our enrolment. However, most often than not, most students do not earn impressive grades. Though they pass, their grades as evidences of their performance in their different subjects, are quite low. Despite of the effort and commitment of the faculty to adapt, implement, innovate strategies for facilitating learning, very few of our students make it to have high grades especially in major subjects. Among these subjects are Computer Organization, Database Management System and System Analysis and Design. This leads the researcher in making this term paper to seek an answer to the problem cited below. Statement of the Problem Considering the subjects mentioned above, this study aims to answer: Is there a significant difference on the performance of the students in these three major subjects? Significance of the Study This term paper is deemed important for the following groups of people in our academe: For the teachers. The result of this study will shed some light on different performance, if there is any, of our students in the subjects concerned thereby providing an opportunity for improvement. If there is such difference, the subject and the teacher handling it may provide some effective means that others may use. Moreover, this term paper may also bring forth some more ideas for us, teachers, to get to know more our students and therefore provide them with the necessary intervention for better scholastic achievement. For IT students in CIC. Students, whose grades are used in this paper, may be benefitted thru proper interventions that maybe drafted for them. Scope and Delimitation This term paper entitled â€Å"Difference of Selected BSIT 3 Students’ Performance in Three Major Subjects: A Term Paper† is focused on finding the difference, if there is any, in three major subjects taken by BSIT 3 of the College of the Immaculate Conception last 1st Sem of School Year 2010-2011. The subjects concerned were Computer Organization, Database Management System and System Analysis and Design. Computer Organization, mostly theoretical in nature, deals with various hardware structures and their interaction with each other. Database Management System, on the other hand, aims to develop a skill in designing, creating and maintaining and/or manipulating a database using MySQL. Lastly, System Analysis and Design focuses on the rudiments of systems development through a feasibility study which is collaborative in nature. These are three different subjects taken by mostly the same students, inclusive of irregular students, under different teachers. This term paper is limited only for the three subjects. It is not concerned, in any way, how those subjects were delivered nor with each student’s intellectual capacity. Definition of Terms CIC. College of the Immaculate Conception CIC community. Refers to the CIC administration, faculty and staff. Programs. Refers to the different course offerings of CIC Blocks. Refers to each class of students consisting of, ideally, not more than 40 students. IT Subject. Refers to each subject offered in the Bachelor Science in Information Technology curriculum. Computer Organization. Refers to the IT subject that presents the various hardware structures (down to transistor level) that compose a computer, their individual functions, how they interact with each other, how they can be organized and controlled to perform the task assigned to the computer. Database Management System. Refers to an IT subject that tackles the following topics: the physical database design process (the last stage of database design), data administration functions, which encompass concurrency control, database security and recovery. System Analysis and Design. This It subject deals with the different phases of systems development focusing on analysis and design where students will learn the rudiments of systems development through a feasibility study. College. Refers to CIC. Methodology The methodology employed in this study is the simple analysis of variance (ANOVA) or one-way ANOVA. According to Prof Isidra Marcos (2011), a distinguished professor in the NEUST graduate school, ANOVA is used for testing that two or more independent samples were drawn from population as having the same mean or to test whether or not more than 2 samples (or groups) are significantly different from each other. Each column in this table refers in each subject. The first column is for Computer Organization, the second one is for Database Management System and lastly for the System Analysis and Design. The last row displays in each cell the number of grades in each column. For the first subject, 31 grades corresponding to 31 students were gathered. There were also 31 and 33 on the second and last columns respectively.

History of Patent System China’s patent system can be traced back to the late Qing Dynasty when China began signing international treaties. For example, on August 18, 1903, China and the United States agreed on a treaty on navigation and commerce. The treaty provided for a â€Å"reciprocal patent-granting arrangement whereby citizens of one contracting party could apply for and secure patent rights for their inventions in the other contracting party.†1 After the Qing Dynasty was over thrown in 1911, the Nationalist government created the Interim Charter on Rewarding Industrial and Artistic Products. And soon thereafter, in 1944, the Patent Law of modern sense was created. Although the Patent Law was adopted in China, the Nationalist government was forced to Taiwan and thus the Patent Law had no effect in mainland China. In 1949, the new government adopted the Provisional Regulations on the Protection of the Invention Rights and Patent Rights, whose purpose was to encourage invention. In 1978, t he government reissued the Regulations on Awards for Technical Improvements and the Regulations on Awards for Inventions which were first issued in 1963 and abolished soon after. Then in 1985 the Patent Law was introduced. China’s Patent Law went through a critical revision in 1992. President Woodrow Wilson, Research Paper, By: Mariah Huffman, President Woodrow Wilson was an extraordinary man in office and not, Wilson was born on December 29th, 1856 in Stanton, Virginia and died February 23rd 1924. His father Joseph Ruggles was in the ministries all Wilson’s life and his mother was a stay at home mom to him and his two sisters, Marion an Annie and a brother Joseph. When he was older he married his wife Ellen Wilson on June 24th 1885 when he was 28 yrs old later they had three daughters, Margaret, Jessie and Eleanor. Wilson went to college to be a minister but his profession changed a lot so he just settled with a PhD in political science. Woodrow Wilson had a lot of achievements in his life, in 1917 he declared war on Germany, on January 8th 1918 Wilson presented his 14 points for peace he was also awarded the noble peace prize for his work in ending world war 1, he negotiated the treaty of Versailles, which also established the league of nations and with ratification of the sixteenth amendment, income tax became legal. The Federal Reserve act was instituted; this agency controlled the money supply. Here are some interesting facts about President Woodrow Wilson, after he had suffered a stroke, Wilson allowed his wife to handle lesser government details she decided what was important and what wasn’t, Wilson typed his own letters on a typewriter, Wilson’s second wife Edith, was a descendent of Pocahontas, two of his daughters were married at the white house, The Wilson’s kept a flock of sheep at the white house to keep the grass trimmed and when there wool was shaved it was sold and the money went to the red cross, his second wife Edith sent a lot of time sewing for the red cross during WW1. President Wilson’s father was his biggest influences growing up because as Wilson grew up he didn’t really learn all that good because he was dyslexic and with his fathers patients he got me through schooling grad school. One of the significant event that Wilson remembers was when he was a young boy growing up in my home town in Augusta, Georgia he witnessed Jefferson Davis in chains being walked down the street on his way to prison. President Wilson later on opened his own law firm back home after his 3rd stroke, his wife Ellen then pasted away and then he was married again to a women named Edith and they never had no kids together while they wore together.

Compare the short story “Flowers for Algernon” Essay

The differences between â€Å"Flowers for Algernon† as a short story and as a movie represent the differences between the two media. In my essay I am going to show, from the differences between the short story and the movie, the differences between the two media, coming up with the conclusion that the short story is the better medium by which to tell this story. One of the most significant differences between the short story and the movie is the developing of Charlie’s character in the story. In the book for example, is nothing said about his family, whereas in the movie is told a lot about his childhood and in the end he also sees his mother. When we see Charlie in the movie identifying himself as lonely, he becomes a more described character than he is in the book. This shows the difference that in a short story we have to develop a character ourselves, but in a movie only throughout one picture of a person we already get a description of this character we would never have got in a short story. In the movie we have seen the information about Charlie we immediately get it supported by information about his family. There are also different kinds of pathos in short story and movie. With the identification of Charlie Ms Kinnian and indirectly Algernon with the loneliness in the movie, they identify themselves as sad. This makes the movie much more pathetic than the short story, because in the short story only the identifying between Charlie and Algernon takes place, which is much less pathetic. What also support the pathos in the movie is the whole emotion around the relationship between Charlie and Ms Kinnian. This could represent the fact that a movie has to be more emotional than a short story, so that the people want to see it. But it could also show that someone who is making a movie has to bring in more pathos in his story, because he shows the story omniscient. That means he has not the chance to tell the story in diary-form and so directly out of the brain of the main character which is much more personal. With short story as diary-form you can see everything through the eyes of the diary writer. To compare the roles of the doctors, doing the operation, also brings up a big difference. In the movie there is no Dr. Nemur, who plays a big role in  the short story. In the short story Dr. Nemur represents the scientific world, which is not always human. Dr. Strauss plays the good, personal and human guy, which also cares about Charlie’s feelings and his psychology. Now in the movie there is only Dr. Strauss, who then has to represent the scientific world but also has to be the good guy. So two flat characters from the short story can be put into one character in the movie. Because Dr. Strauss is representing two characters, he becomes a grotesque person. This happens, because he has to represent a scientific society, which does not have ethics as basis but also has to represent a world of humanity and ethics, which in the short story represent Dr. Nemur. In my opinion the short story is the more successful medium by which to tell the story, because the movie creates you through a lot of emotions one specific opinion about what happens to Charlie. Whereas in the short story you have more chance to create your own opinion about the story, which is a very important thing in stories but also in your life.

In addition, there may be no cultural reference. For instance, keep it real is a popular American pop culture term- but its a phrase that has no resonance in Italian everyday life. In fact, if Italians were to use the term, theyd say it in English to indicate their knowledge of American pop culture. Character Counts Another consideration when getting a tattoo, obviously, is whether it fit on your ankle, bicep, back, or wherever else youve decided you want the image. If there is text involved, be aware that Italian translations of English phrases and terms are typically longer- both the words themselves and the total number of words. Either the font size of the letters will have to be smaller to fit the same area, or you will have to bulk up that bicep so thats theres more skin to ink! If An Italian Tattoo Is A Must If youre absolutely, positively convinced that you want an Italian tattoo, consult a native Italian speaker. Better yet, ask a few Italian speakers and get a range of opinions about both the grammatically correct translation of the term or phrase youre considering, and also whether it has any significance in Italian. This way you wont have an Italian tattoo permanently etched into your skin that, although it makes sense literally, isnt part of everyday speech. Whatever you do, avoid online automatic translators- they are notorious for rendering incomprehensible statements. And make sure the tattoo artist understands exactly how the word or phrase should read before beginning his work. A Picture Paints A Thousand Words Walk into the Sistine Chapel and one of the lasting images is the brilliance of the colors on the walls and ceilings. Now imagine what an Italian Renaissance artist could accomplish with a broad expanse of back, a forearm, or thigh.
